Piano Generale per Comune di Piano di Sorrento improves the existing conditions of the civic headquarters of Piano di Sorrento and Piazza Cota by introducing modern architectural elements and promoting pedestrian use of the space. Transformation of a vehicular corridor into public realm increases access to local businesses and promotes a walkability. A new facade system establishes the government building as a uniform body by reaching to the extents of the structure while emphasizing the mayor’s balcony, a symbolic representation of connection between the government and the people. Through perforation and carving of the facade, its selective transparency maintains existing  sight lines while shielding occupants from harsh solar conditions.
